Drawing an alphabet – S
Initial idea: OTT elaboration
NOTE: Unfinished.
The magic of ornamentation
I’ve always been fascinated by elaborate ornamentation. I don’t understand how it works, as you can see. Obviously, I’d have a better idea if I’d studied this sort of thing. But there still seems to be a sort of sorcery to it even if there are established rules and patterns to follow.
The curly-wurliness of the letter ‘S’ meant this was the obvious letter on which to attempt this sort of thing,
Trial and error
So this is basically trial and error, throwing shapes and seeing what (sort of) works. This is a time consuming and unsatisfactory way of working. I once made 96 (!) different package designs for a product because my boss would ‘know what he wanted when he saw it’.1 This is one of the reasons I’m now sat here, doing this.
I doubt I’m going to finish it. It’s a time sink.
This is part of a project to draw the letters of the alphabet in different styles.
